Use of Unlicensed Features
When using cloud subscriptions, special attention should be paid to features that are intentionally or unintentionally enabled across the entire tenant. This can result in users accessing features for which no adequate licenses have been assigned.
This situation is particularly common in environments where different license plans (e.g. Microsoft 365 E3, E5, and F1) are used side by side. For example, it must be ensured that only users with an E5 license have access to Microsoft Entra ID Plan 2, while all other users are prevented from inheriting these permissions through group assignments or other inherited configurations.
At the time of writing, this type of underlicensing is neither detected by the Microsoft 365 Admin Center nor automatically calculated. As a result, it often goes unnoticed and is therefore widespread in practice.
